Dear Mr. ________,
Just after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and the levees broke in New Orleans you were all over that story. I was happy for your courage and the news coverage.
However, today, the news cycle is noticeably silent. A recent front page headline in the Gulf Coast’s daily paper, the Sun Herald, announced “Rural wells may be in danger: Buried debris full of contaminants.” To date, “virtually no cancer-causing chemicals” have been detected. Virtually none? Good Lord! Who wants to drink, cook with, or bathe in water containing “virtually no cancer-causing chemicals”?
Remember when the Bush Administration proclaimed that the air around the Twin Towers was safe to breathe after 9-11? We all know that Bush’s EPA was dead wrong. We need you and your news station to shine the light on what is happening now with the water in these Katrina-ravaged areas so that we can ensure that the folks down there have safe, clean drinking water.
Children are playing and bathing in it. Parents are cooking food with it. We need to protect the safety of their water. Can we count on you to break your silence and report on these problems in Katrina land?
Sincerely,
Your Name
Your Address
Your City, State, and Zip Code
