Phone Script for calling your U.S. Senators

Hello. My name is _____________, and I am a registered voter in (your city, state). I would like to express my concern about how the Veteran’s Administration is treating our vets in the Katrina-ravaged region. With whom should I speak?

[The staffer who answers the phone will either take the call her or himself. or transfer you to someone in the office who is responsible for Katrina or Veterans Affairs calls.]

My concern is this. Veterans in the Katrina area are being required to travel hours, even to other states, just for healthcare. This is ridiculous!

Medicare contracts with private doctors and facilities all the time. The VA can also contract with local doctors and facilities in the area to provide care closest to the vets’ homes. That is the way to honor our vets.

It is the honorable thing to do. Please work with Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu to make this happen. Here is her DC office number: 202-224-5824.

Can I count on (name of your elected official here) to work with Senator Landrieu?

[The staffer will most likely state that they will pass along your comments to the Senator/Congressional Representative.]

If you would be so kind, I would like a response in writing regarding what he/she is doing to help our vets in the Katrina area. My name and address are as follows. [Provide your name and address.]

Thank you for listening. Have a nice day!
