Subject: Pass Mulitple Peril Insurance Bill

Dear Representative _________________,

My name is ________________, and I’m a registered voter in your district. I am writing to talk about the insurance reform bill—H.R. 3121 formally known as the Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act of 2007.

Specifically, I wish to express my support for the expansion to cover wind damage. This bill will expand the National Flood Insurance Program to include all natural perils such as wind, and it would be financed in a way that pays for itself. The bill is fiscally responsible, and therefore it would comply with the new House rules.

This bill will protect America’s families and businesses. Most importantly, it will protect MY family. The insurance industry has betrayed America’s families and businesses. It is time to step in and protect us from the ravages of an industry run amok with greed.

I hope that I can count on your support for this important piece of legislation. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Your name
Your address
Your email
Your phone number

Look up your congressional representative’s phone number here. You state what is in italics. Adapt as you desire. Most importantly, call . . . and be polite.

Everyone appreciates good manners. Besides, we get a whole lot more with a bit of honey than we will with a jar of vinegar . . . at this point, that is. ;)

Can I count on Representative _______’s support?

[Note: The staff member on the other end of the phone may not know yet the position of your congressional representative just yet.]

Thank you for listening and passing along my message. Have a great day!

The end! Smile. You're now an active participant in the great American experiment in representative democracy!
